One of the biggest and most anticipated days in the calendar of events in the west of Ireland, National Heritage Day will return to Ballina on 15 July 2026 as part of the renowned Ballina Salmon Festival.
A flagship event within the festival programme, National Heritage Day offers a vibrant and immersive celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage. For one spectacular day, the streets of Ballina will be transformed into a bustling market town reminiscent of life over 100 years ago, inviting visitors to step back in time and experience the traditions, crafts, and community spirit that have shaped the area.
Visitors can look forward to a packed and lively programme featuring an abundance of live music, artisan food, traditional crafts, and street entertainment. Across the town, a wide variety of interactive experiences will take place, including traditional craft demonstrations, heritage displays, and stalls from skilled makers and local producers showcasing techniques passed down through generations.
The energy of the day will be amplified by four stages of live music and entertainment, creating a festival atmosphere from morning through to evening. From traditional Irish music to contemporary performances, Ballina will be alive with colour, sound, and celebration throughout the day.
A much-loved element of National Heritage Day is the opportunity for visitors to fully embrace the spirit of the occasion. Attendees are encouraged to dress in traditional or vintage attire, with prizes awarded for the best dressed individual and family, adding to the spectacle and sense of fun.
National Heritage Day continues to play a vital role in celebrating local heritage while supporting craftspeople, food producers, and businesses, further strengthening Ballina’s reputation as a leading cultural destination.
