Thank you so much to all our amazing volunteers who took part in the Ballina Salmon Festival in 2022, and throughout the decades. Volunteers have and always will be at the heart of the festival and the involvement of volunteers is absolutely crucial to the events success. With over 300,000 visitors expected to return to Ballina, between July 8th and 15th 2023 we will need the help of up 1,000 volunteers to ensure that the event runs smoothly.
By volunteering at this year’s festival 2023 you will be a part of the week long celebrations of the arts and culture, music, sports and the best of local talent in Ballina and around the County of Mayo. Participating as a volunteer will enable you to build new friendships, develop new skills and play an integral role in the success of the oldest community festival in Ireland.

Volunteer Roles
Volunteers will be asked to fill a number of roles, from street ambassadors, assisting at the daily events, volunteering at concerts, some car parking, supporting the set up and take down of National Heritage Day and helping in the stewards office and information centre, photography/social media and many other roles.

The minimum commitment is 3 hours and shifts vary from 3 to 6 hours depending on the role, with shift hours throughout the day and night meaning there is a role and shift time to suit everyone. You can volunteer to just do one shift or as many as you like, it’s up to you. We will be grateful for whatever time you can spare to help.

Ballina Salmon  Festival need help for the whole week from Saturday 8th right through to Saturday 15th July and we will need the biggest number of volunteers on the days of the highlight events including Teddy Bears Picnic (9th Jul), National Heritage Day (12th Jul) and Macnas Community Parade and Fireworks display (15th Jul).

Volunteers must be over 15. If a volunteer is under 18 parental consent will be required.

Volunteer Training
All volunteers will be asked to attend a series of training sessions in advance of the festival including Safeguarding.
